Texas licensing and carrier permits · driver guide
I cross a state line on my route. Where should I apply?
Confirm your licensing state and your employer’s operation before selecting a permit or test site. A border-area job, an interstate carrier registration and a Texas driver license are separate questions. Use the agency handling the specific transaction.
Separate your ELDT record from your test-truck reservation
For an applicable Class A or B path, online theory and in-person range and road activity have different purposes. Match the curriculum to your license goal and confirm the provider’s completion record. Vehicle rental covers the truck or bus reserved for the test. Ask separately about eligibility for the complimentary behind-the-wheel activity.
Which Texas office should I visit?
Start with the licensing agency for the permit or endorsement. A general driver license office may have a different address from your assigned skills-test site. Use the exact location on your appointment when requesting a test truck.
